5-minute setup for hackathons: signup, API key, first request, signed receipt.

Quick answer

Sign up with your event link, vault a provider key, create a Prune key, change one base URL (or use prune-sdk), send one real request, then screenshot the signed receipt for judging.

1. Sign up

Use your event signup link so we can attribute traffic (example for Junction):

app.withprune.com/signup?ref=hackathon&event=junction2026

Replace junction2026 with your event slug. Or open plain signup.

2. Get API keys

  1. Connect → Providers — save OpenAI / Anthropic / OpenRouter / Gemini in the vault.
  2. Connect → API Keys — create a Prune key (prune_…). Copy once.

3. Install SDK (or OpenAI-compatible)

Any OpenAI-compatible client: base URL https://api.withprune.com/v1, API key = your Prune key.

4. First request + receipt

  1. Send one real request (not a mock).
  2. Dashboard → Requests — row should appear.
  3. Response JSON → prune_metadata (cost, optimizations, receipt_signature).
  4. Optional: verify at withprune.com/verify.

5. Redeem Pro coupon (if you have one)

Dashboard → Billing → Redeem coupon (e.g. JUNCTION2026-PRO90). You will see plan and end date.

6. Get help

Troubleshooting

  • 401 — wrong or revoked Prune key
  • 502 — bad provider key or model name
  • 429 — rate limit (default 60 req/min per key)
  • 402 — monthly plan limit; redeem a coupon or wait
  • No savings on first call — normal; cache not required

You still pay your model provider. Prune is the control plane in front (vault, spend caps, Shield, signed receipts).
